Welcome to Huipil Life Tribe Blog!

I am so excited to start this journey! I have loved these textiles for as long as I can remember. From seeing them in Southern Mexico to seeing them during Cinco de Mayo celebrations. And in September we celebrate EL GRITO, Mexico’s independence from Spain! I first fell in love with the Guatemalan huipiles when I discovered them through Alma Guatemalan. They repurpose vintage textiles into gorgeous handbags and clutches. I remember searching for them on FB, I thought maybe there would be a BST group about them, but I had no luck. So I started one. lol But I became more and more intrigued in the intricate designs and detail. I wanted to know what they meant. What did the animals or symbols mean? I was curious. And that when I really started to research and my love for Guatemalan huipiles grew even more. I love the colors and I love the designs. But these designs are more than just pretty colors and textiles. Come with me as we discover them. Lets unveil the rich history and culture behind these amazing pieces of wearable art!

You will learn in this blog that for Guatemalans huipiles tell a life story. They tell so much about a community lost in the underserved communities of Guatemala. Lets learn together. Learn to appreciate every huipil for what it signifies. This is why I was inspired to start Huipil Life Tribe.
